The Back Rub Book: How to Give and Receive Great Back Rubs
Published in Paperback by Vintage Books (July, 1989)
Author: Anne Kent Rush
Average review score:

A great book for the novice!
I thoroughly enjoyed The Back Rub Book; its friendly, themed lessons are a fun way to learn the art of massage. And this is the first massage book I've read which gives advice on ways to *receive* a massage and improve the experience!

The themed chapters progressively introduce you to new techniques and combinations of strokes in a friendly, unintimidating way. I heartily recommend this book for those looking for a intro to massage.

Excellent book on back massages
This is a great book for people who'd love to give a back massage. As a person who's taken three massage courses at university, I find this book helpful in refining my previously-learned techniques. Also, The Back Rub Book has helped me learn some new ways of providing back massages.

This book covers all sorts of massage: athletic, sensual, and general. It also gives tips and alerts you to any gotchas you may come across while giving massage.

All in all, I highly recommend this book to both novice and advanced massagers.

The Cookbook for Great Massages
The Back Rub Book is a great resource for anyone who wants to make other people feel good. Anne Rush explains a multitude of techniques in easy-to-understand language and provides "recipes" for massage sessions. These sessions have themes (i.e., a wake-up massage, massage for lovers, etc.) as well as specific techniques not found in other massage books. (My favorite is the Rocking Horse, which is performed on the back.) I've read quite a few massage books, but this is my favorite by far.

Becoming a Woman of Influence: Making a Lasting Impact on Others
Published in Paperback by Navpress (October, 1999)
Author: Carol Kent
Average review score:

Excellent, uplifting and encouraging book.
This is the first Carol Kent book that I have read, but it will not be the last. I loved it! It reminded me of how we can be an encourager to others and often we may not even realize it. Just by letting the love of Jesus shine through us to others. How we can help lead others to Christ just by be being an example of a good christian friend. This book is excellent, great for a women's book club read.

Impacting Young Women's Lives For Christ
When I began reading this book, I was able to relate to what the writer was saying because I've been impacted by two Godly women in my life. Mrs. Kent explains clearly how we as women need to impact other women. This book can be used for any women who desires to impact lives. This book would motivate you to do so, due to what Christ has done in your life, we are to pour our experiences in the lives of other women. So every women who wants to impact lives, you should get this book. Zinnada L. Hodge Bladensburg, MD

Mentoring 101
In my life I have had many women of Influence that have spoken tons of wisdom into my life. I wanted to pass on the great blessing that had been given to me. This book really taught me how to be a God centered mentor. This book is one of the most PRACTICAL books I have read on mentoring. Carol starts off with a few thoughts on the power of mentoring. Then she goes through several different core values of becoming that woman of influence. It takes you through some key character traits of the perfect person of influence: Jesus. There is a study guide in the back that will take you on a 9 week Bible study about how Jesus influenced others.

I was very impressed with Carol Kent. This was the first book of hers that I had read. It won't be the last. You can hear her heart that she has to see Christian women grow in their faith and to become all that they have been created to be. I was so blessed by the stories that she shares about her mentors and some other stories. Carol gives you a glance on what it feels like to live life on purpose. You can feel her fulfillment that she gets from her "mentorship" relationships. It's catchy!

If you are a Christian woman who is around any other women, this book is for you. You will be encouraged to take the light that God has placed in your spirit and pass it on to the next generation. *As a young college student let me tell ya, there are a BUNCH of young women who need your guidance, map, and wisdom.

Dooly and the Snortsnoot.
Published in Library Binding by Putnam Pub Group Library (January, 1973)
Author: Jack, Kent
Average review score:

Snortlicious
First of all, any book about Snortsnoots, by default, has to be good. And of course this is no exception. Continuing the long tradition of Snortsnoot tales, Kent has weaved magic. My favorite picture is when the Snortsnoot is salt and peppering his victim. My second favorite is the Snortsnoot's blank and shocked stare when Dooly finds his strength. Every child should have this read to them or they miss out on something wonderful.

A tale of an ordinary child who grows into his potential.
A wonderful book, well liked by my children, and by parents as well. Teaches a good moral lesson, pokes fun at parenting, and is a gentle, sweet tale.

Dooly and the Snortsnoot is a high-quality book.
Dooly and the Snortsnoot tells the story of young Dooly and his adventures with the village children. Dooly overcomes his doubts and comes to terms with his snortsnoot dilemma. It was a fine play, indeed.

Doubting Thomas (Crisis 2000)
Published in Paperback by Letras Victorias Publishing (06 December, 1998)
Author: J. Kent Stauffer
Average review score:

This book has high merit both as fiction and Y2K fact!
It is apparent that Mr. Stauffer has studied his subject very well. This fast-paced, well written book is must reading for anyone who would like Y2k explained. Although this is presented as fiction don't be surprised if this book doesn't become a rare glimpse into the future.

As good as Clancey without the "techno-talk"!
I loved it! When the clock strikes midnight on 12/31/99 in Doubting Thomas I felt I was cresting on a roller coaster and could hardly hold on for the ride. I couldn't put it down. Stauffer weaves a story as well as Tom Clancey without having to go into what I would call excessive "techno-talk". The use of the Y2K dynamic as a premise for what happens is thrilling and eye opening. While entertaining it is also sobering. It causes one to consider just how trusting and reliant we are on people and systems. Stauffer raises important questions regarding this in a thrilling, hair raising tale. I highly recommend Doubting Thomas (Crisis 2000). Read it before it's too late!

Very captivating with many well developed characters
This maybe Mr. Stauffer's first novel, but it is well done. Doubting Thomas (Crisis 2000)) makes for an entertaining read. His hitman, Harold Kronk, for instance, is a jewel. Although I am not a big believer in any Y2K catastrophe, still, this novel is well worth the price. Judging from this book, Mr. Stauffer has a lot to offer. I hope he keeps writing.

Earth's Only Paradise
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (May, 2001)
Author: Polly McCanless Kent
Average review score:

Journey to the New World
Why not come along as Polly McCanless Kent takes you on the journey of a lifetime. A journey that starts in London and takes you to the Jamestowne Colony in the new world of America.
The setting is 1621 London--and Payton Montgomery has made the decision to seek his fortune in the Virginia colony. Being a
'second son,' he wants to have a part in establishing a new system, allowing any man the right to own land.
Katherine Arlington's decision was not her own. In an attempt to keep her inheritance from her stepfather, and to avoid an arranged marriage with a man she doesn't love and never could, she flees to a relative's house in Plymouth. But before Katherine can arrive, she is drugged, kidnapped and placed on a ship bound for the Royal Colony of Virginia. She is to be offered as a wife to a gentleman named Payton Montgomery.
This is their story. Their coming together and their separation.
The story of brave souls who try their luck in the wild, new land
of America. A story of their struggle to work the land and fight off Indian attacks.
A story of spiritual awakening for Katherine and the softening of Payton's heart to let her in.
Katherine's journey wasn't her doing, but that of wicked individuals wanting to line their pockets with gold. But as it turned out, she was just what the colony needed. Her destiny lay in the primitive new world of Jamestowne Colony, and she would fulfill that destiny to help all men to be free.

Compelling novel
This powerful, passionate debut novel is impossible to put down. Superb fiction. A delightful reading experience.

Women's spiritual growth comes from her life's experiences
You won't want to put this book down. Although it takes place in the early 1600's, a time when women and men were presented some harsh conditions and struggles in life, the author reveals how life's journey for spiritual growth then, and now, has not changed. Each character is well defined, and can be identified by the reader as a person living in our own decade. One understands that the basic nature of men and women is motivated by the same forces that have always existed. The story will sweep you away in its plot, and the adventurous events in the life of its heroin, Katherine, whose dreams of finding that special man in her life takes her across an ocean. Kidnapped and alone, she finds the best of herself and the courage to live her life one day at a time. The historical settings of the early days in the colonization of Jamestown, Virginia are descriptive and educational, well drawn and interesting. A story that will touch your heart and soul, and perhaps make you look at some universal truths in a new way.

Fruit Berry and Nut Inventory
Published in Paperback by Seed Saver Pubns (June, 1993)
Author: Kent Whealy
Average review score:

A solid reference guide to hundreds of species and varieties
If I had a nickle for every time I used this book, I could buy several more copies. Can't decide what varieties of grapes to order for the garden arbor? Want to know the name of that chocolate persimmon tree you saw in the park? Can't recall the name of those tart little oranges you picked last year in Florida? Want to know which variety of thornless blackberry produces the largest berries? The largest yield? The sweetest berries? Want to plant the best tasting paper-shelled pecans there are? It's all in this book if you want to know.

I've used this book to plan my plantings, select fruit for winemaking experiments, recommend specialized varieties of fruit to friends, and simply research the answers to questions sent to me from my website. I rarely don't find the answers. And I am constantly amazed at the vast store of information contained in it. There are books in my library I could do without. This certainly isn't one of them.

Fruit Berry and Nut Inventory
A complete listing of common and unusual fruit, berry and nut trees and bushes with a description of each, where they will grow and where you can buy them. A wonderful resource for edible landscaping. I have found nothing else like this very important resource.

most complete list of fruit, berry and nut plants, available
excellent list, and description of all fruit ,berry and nut trees and bushes available,in the usa with the address and phone number of where you can buy them.

The Grown-Up Day.
Published in School & Library Binding by MacMillan Pub Co (June, 1970)
Author: Jack, Kent
Average review score:

My favorite book as a child is now my children's favorite.
I loved to read this book as a child and remember giggling at the drawings. Now my son and daughter (two-year old twins) have as much fun with the rhymes and pictures, and it is their most-requested bedtime story.

Most-favored book by two generations!
My 14-month old son really likes this book. It so happens that it was my favorite when I was a toddler. I've not been able to obtain a new printing, so we're actually reading my original printing copy to him!

One of the only positive memories from my early childhood
My mother, who is now deceased, used to read to me when I was a little girl, and my most requested book was The Grown Up Day. I felt I could identify with the children portrayed in the story because I always loved to play house with my dolls. I highly recommend this book to anybody who has fond memories of playing at being grown up when they were a child.

If You Grew Up With George Washington
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (January, 1993)
Authors: Ruth Below Gross and Jack Kent
Average review score:

My students loved it!
I have several of the "If You Grew Up...." titles in my free-reading area of my sixth grade classroom. The George Washington title is one of the most-often chosen titles--probably because they are curious about our first president. This title also gives a good description of what life was like for the gentry class of Virginia in the 1740s-1760s. Students have been able to use the information to write comparison pieces about GW's life and their own. I highly recommend this title and the others in the series for both the literature and social studies classroom. Weak readers have a high interest in the subject matter; strong readers enjoy a quick read.

If you...bought all of these books
Although I don't have all the books in this series ("if you..."), the six that I have are so fun and interesting, that I intend to get them all asap. My three children (3-8), my husband and I LOVE them.

superb!
Outstanding look backwards in time to discover what it would have been like to grow up with George Washington. The book answers lots of questions; What kind of clothes would you wear?, What about the bathroom?, What did children do to have fun?, What would you learn in school? How did people carry their tabacco around?, Who made the laws for the colony? and many more... Loads of cheery illustrations cover the pages.

Inside Women's College Basketball: Anatomy of a Season
Published in Hardcover by Taylor Pub (October, 2000)
Authors: Richard Kent and C. Vivian Stringer
Average review score:

Great for the rabid fan or casual observer!
The operative word is "Inside" as Inside Women's College Basketball Anatomy of a Season transports the reader inside the locker room, the coaches inner sanctum as well as onto the court. For a rabid fan or casual observer to get such insight into UCONN and Tennessee, the two premier women's programs in the country, is a treat. Access to C. Vivian Stringer, one of the legendary coaches makes the Rutgers story come to life the way she has elevated their program to the elite level. A look at the Sacred Heart program adds another dimension as the reader understands how a lower tier school competes for visibility and victories in a burgeoning women's college basketball environment. It is clear that Kent and his colleagues understand the women's game, but what is really enjoyable is how they communicate their excitement about and love for the game to the reader.

A Great Read
This is really a great book. I found the Chapters on UCONN and Sacred Heart to be the most interesting. Both are located in Connecticut. UCONN is coming off a National Championship, while Sacred Heart is just starting it's Div. I classification. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes college basketball.

Good Insight Into How the Game Is Played
Author really puts us inside the arenas and the lockerooms of the major Programs in the country to find out about the women's game.I especially enjoyed the suggestions for changes at the end.A must read for the casual reader or zealot of women's college hoops.

Juggling Act: Handling Divorce Without Dropping the Ball: A Survival Kit for Parents and Kids
Published in Unknown Binding by Free Spirit Publishing (August, 2001)
Authors: Roberta Beyer and Kent Winchester
Average review score:

This really helped my kids (and me and my ex too)!
I am a divorced mom and have two kids. My ex and I had a terrible time communicating after the divorce and I could tell that my kids were really suffering as a result. I decided to buy this kit and things have improved dramatically. First of all, when the item arrived, my daughter's eyes lit up when she saw the calendar and the stickers. She ran off to her room to put it together and raced out when she was finished to show me the schedule she has with me and my ex. It was one of the first times since the divorce that I had really seen her happy, so I felt like this product had shined some light into her life again. Then I decided to start using the Mom and Dad Pad to communicate with my ex. I was skeptical at first that it would make any difference, but it did. I can say, without a doubt, it helped more than all the therapy sessions we had that we spent a small fortune on. It's an easy thing to use. It just seemed to help us be more civil to each other. The books have been great too.

How to Stay Civil Without Putting Your Kids in the Middle
Adults may end their relationship, but it's families that divorce. Whatever the reasons are for the split, how parents handle the divorce directly determines how their children will handle it. The JUGGLING ACT KIT, devised by two attorneys who've helped families divorce with dignity can help. The kit's parent and child books, calendar, stickers, and-especially-the parent communication pad is exactly what divorcing parents need to effectively communicate with their ex-spouse and responsibly navigate family members through this tough transition.

JUGGLING ACT will help parents and kids "keep it together," while coping with the challenges of change, from how to talk with your children about their feelings and fears to how to communicate with your ex-spouse about the daily details of your child's life. Included in the Juggling Act kit are:

•The parents' book, Speaking of Divorce: How to Talk with Your Kids and Help Them Cope, provides specific information about what to say-and what not to say-to children, how to honestly yet reassuringly answer their questions, and how to understand and address their most common fears and concerns.

•Written for children ages 7-12, What in the World Do You Do When Your Parents Divorce? A Survival Guide for Kids works through the many different questions children have and provides gentle, easy-to-understand answers to help them work through fear, confusion, sadness, guilt, and anger.

•The Mom & Dad Pad (with carbonless copies and seal-able envelopes) is a deceptively simple but effective tool that divorcing and divorced parents can use to notify each other about school events, appointments, transportation arrangements, travel plans, and other scheduling issues relating to their child-without putting children in the middle. (Also leaves a paper trail...)

•The "Keep Track" Calendar For Kids helps children regain a sense of control by giving them one place to refer to so they know in advance which parent they'll be with on which days. And the colorful "Keep Track" Stickers For Kids, designed for use in conjunction with the calendar, are fun and easy to use.

For those millions of divorced parents and kids trying to keep more than one ball up in the air, the Juggling Act kit is a great help for "not dropping the ball" during change.

Best thing to buy if you're getting divorced and have kids
If you are getting divorced and have kids or you know someone going through a divorce, this is one of the best products on the market. Do yourself a favor and buy it! There are lots of books for people and kids dealing with divorces, but there are very few products which actually help people cope with divorces. This kit contains a calendar plus stickers (mom stickers, dad stickers, holidays, etc.)so you and your kids can actually see their schedules. It's an incredibly helpful tool that gives kids structure, something they desparately need when they're getting divorced. The kit also contains a great communication pad for parents---an easy-to-use fill-in-the-blank form that makes writing to an ex a much easier task. And it makes an automatic copy for your files. Then there are two books, one for parents, and one for kids, that help you with LOTS of issues commonly dealt with in divorces. The nice thing is that there's lots of information packed into a small book, but it's not overwhelming.
